Carnivàle returns to town in 2004!
Thursday, December 11, 2003

It's official: Carnivàle has been renewed!! From the Hollywood Reporter:

Dec. 12, 2003
HBO crystal ball: 'Carnivale' back
"Carnivale" will reopen its tent next year on HBO. Sources said the premium cable network has greenlighted a second season for the primetime series, ordering 13 more episodes. Production is expected to begin in the spring in anticipation of returning the Depression-era drama to air sometime in late 2004. Created by Daniel Knauf, "Carnivale" completed its 13-episode rookie season earlier this month with an episode drawing 3.5 million total viewers, just under its season average. While HBO's more established series such as "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City" attract much bigger audiences, "Carnivale" earned a respectable viewership on par with another of its critically acclaimed dramas, "The Wire." The series appeared to hit a ratings trough early against stiff competition on the broadcast networks but surged in the latter half of its run even as its lead-out, the faux-reality series "K Street," faltered. Launched simultaneously with "Carnivale," "Street" will not return for a second season. "Carnivale" is executive produced by Knauf and Howard Klein. Knauf is repped by Agency for the Performing Arts' Marc Pariser. (

So if you're a big SpongeBob fan -- or if a few of the little fishies in your family have a soft spot for the crusty ol' sailor who perfected the Krabby Patty -- now is your chance to ask Santa to make a delivery straight from our pineapple under the sea to yours!

Weekly Radio Interview
Tuesday, October 7, 2003

For the past 4 weeks, since Carnivàle premiered, Clancy has been a call-in guest on a radio show every Monday morning on WIRX in Southwest Michigan. The radio hosts, John Jay and Brother Phil, have named the segment "Decoding Carnivàle," and with CB, they discuss the previous night's episode, along with anything else that pops up. Beth, who receives the radio station, has been transcribing each interview and putting them online in the CBFC Weblog. Yesterday's interview is up now, and check the blog archives to read interviews from the previous weeks. A huge thanks to Beth for her work that gives us who aren't in Michigan access to the interviews, and also thank you to John and Phil for the mention yesterday!

Carnivàle Premieres!
Wednesday, September 17, 2003

Naturally, I would have to go out of town at the time when this site would see the most hits, coinciding with Sunday's Carnivàle premiere. Welcome new visitors! Here are several updates from this past week...

Carnivàle saw fantastic ratings on Sunday, reaching about 5.3 million viewers. This was the highest series premiere numbers HBO had ever seen. You can read more in this Reuters article.

Clancy was interviewed early Monday morning on a Michigan radio station, WIRX. Beth transcribed the interview and has it up in the CBFC Blog... Thanks Beth!! A reminder we also have the new Message Boards where you can discuss this interview, or anything else you like.

Andrew McGinn of Ohio's Springfield News-Sun interviewed Clancy for this Carnivale article. Other newspapers that have recently reviewed Carnivale include the Salt Lake Tribune, Fox News, USA Today, San Jose Mercury News, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Associated Press, and the Contra Costa Times. New CB article & Carnivále fansites
Saturday, September 6, 2003

Ohio writer Steve Stout (who has covered the Fan Club's "Breaking News" screening and CB's support of J. Madison Wright a few years ago) has a new article about Clancy in Carnivàle. Click here to read it on the Urbana Daily Citizen's site. Stout also has another article about Carnivále that Clancy is quoted in. It is here.

A few Carnivále fan sites have been popping up: Carnivale.org which offers episode guides and a fan forum, and Fragments which has a lot of information AND many spoilers, so be warned.
